Does Gratitude decrease our materialism?

I've been following Joshua Beckers blog for a while now and I thought I would share this post.

He made me think that the more appreciative I am with what I have already in my life....the less searching I do for " new things".
Given this...it rings true for me that being thankful for what you do have make you happier!

What Kind of Fun Do You Have?

Gretchen Rubin writes a blog on happiness and has written two books on the subject.
In this post she breaks down "fun" into three categories.
What I found so interesting is that the more effort and time required to make the fun times....the more valuable they are!

So take the time to plan fun events with friends, family, neighbors and co workers.  Inevitably, these fun times strengthen social bonds which are most valuable in human happiness.

So don't give up..despite our ever busier lives..keep planning family get together, girls/boys  nights out, play dates for your kids and outings!

I know when I look back on my happiest moments they involve:
My wedding day
The Christmas' my mom hosted when I was a kid and the ones I host now
Game nights with my friends
The births of my children
Summer nights at Cap St Jacques
Summer Wednesday night swim meets for the last 30 years!
Working at Summit School.

And many many more...the common theme is that they all took work and planning...but boy were they worth it!

Inspiring Words

Many people' s mouths falls open when they hear that I frequently walk, hike, or snow shoe in the pouring rain or deep snow and I love it. Funny enough my kids are beginning to really like it too.
The following words by Tammy Strobel ( author of You Can Buy Happiness and it is Cheap) pretty much sum up the reason why I do it.
"Cycling in nasty weather inspires me and keeps my ego in check. When the wind and rain hit my face and I'm immersed in nature, its easy to remember that I'm just one person in a very big world."

Let alone how good I feel after battling bad weather ( when properly dressed!) Its very empowering....try it!

Do you venture out in so called " bad weather".? I love hearing your stories.

Consider exercise as self care!

I loved the take of this blog post! Check it out.
Take today for example...a rainy grey day in Montreal.... I knew that if I didn't make it part of my families day I wouldn't exercise...so off we went to Cap st Jacques to take a small hike to the cabane a sucre. It was raining slightly but we were dressed in rain gear and had a great time. Funny enough we were the only ones there!

Is the 8 hour work day keeping us happy?

I often remember my back packing days as so peaceful...spending so little and enjoying so much...I travelled for five summers with my husband...then boyfriend.
As I struggle financially to stay working very part time while raising my children...I know for me this is how I need to do it to stay happy and healthy.
Read this link as she questions how the 8 hour work day affects us.
What work/life balance have you established?..I always love hearing other people's tricks!
